Are oatmeal squares agood for you?

Goodness is always relative. According to calculations made using data from the Canadian Nutrient File (Health Canada), a tray of squares will provide plenty of valuable nutrients, as well as 23684.35 KJ (5663.50 food [kilogram] calories) of energy.

Can I use less sugar?

Certainly, but the melted and hardened sugar is really what helps hold the squares together.

Where does the recipe come from?

The olden days.

What else can I mix into the recipe?

Nuts, raisins, cinammon, vanilla extract...
